West Carleton 4H Community Club members and their families filled the Kinburn Community Centre main hall last Saturday night to celebrate the club’s traditional awards night.
Well over 100 guests and members enjoyed a magnificent buffet of, as West Carleton-March Coun. Eli El Chantiry was heard to remark, “everybody’s favourite dishes.”
After dinner was over, 4H vice president Avaleigh Eastman took on the role of MC in place of Brad Cavanagh who had found himself unable to attend at the last moment.
Eastman ably handled the evening’s program, which started with calling on section leaders of the 17-plus activities the club had been involved with during the year, as well as announcing a long list of prizewinners.
She also thanked the many sponsors whose “participation and support we really appreciate.”
These included Robert Sparrow of Kinburn, El Chantiry, the Kinburn and Galetta community associations, the Lorne Sutherland Women’s Institute, McDougall Insurance, Mike McNeely of Carleton Place, Signature Flowers and John O’Neill of Kinburn.
Awards were presented by Rick Cummings and Elmer Evans for winners in the beef categories: John Eastman and Todd Styles for dairy, Bruce and Liz Hudson for field crops and Jennifer Eastman and Gail Cummings for scrapbooking and homecraft.
It was a long and happy evening with parents and friends of 4H members enjoying the event as much as the younger generation.
