Lt. Col. Tim Young spoke to his wife Sherri, his son Stuart and daughter Brittany during a Remembrance Day ceremony at West Carleton Secondary School on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
His image was broadcast in the school’s auditorium before an audience of more than a thousand people.
He spoke to them about the sacrifice of the 97 Canadians who have lost their lives to promote peace in the war-torn country.
“The 97 names on the list makes it more real,” said Sherri, referring to the names of the dead on huge banners beside the podium. “You don’t understand it until your loved (one) is over there.”
Stuart, choking back his emotions, told the Kourier-Standard that he really misses his dad and can’t wait for him to come home at the end of February. Both father and son enjoy golfing, and that is what Stuart wants to do most with his dad.
Lt. Col. Young has been in Kandahar since the beginning of May 2008. Young has also served two tours in Bosnia.
